Overview

The QFX5100 line of flexible, high-performance, low-latency, and feature-rich L2/L3 switches are optimized for virtualized data center environments.

QFX5100 switches are a universal building block for multiple fabric architectures including Juniper’s mixed 1/10/40GbE Virtual Chassis, Virtual Chassis Fabric, and QFabric System architectures, as well as open architectures such as Spine and Leaf and Layer 3 fabrics. All QFX5100 switches support unified in-service software upgrade (unified ISSU) to deliver hitless data center operations.

QFX5100 switches also include support for virtualized network environments including Juniper Contrail and VMware NSX Layer 2 gateway services.

Four QFX5100 switch models are available:

  • QFX5100-48S, a 10GbE switch offering 48 dual-mode, small form-factor pluggable transceiver (SFP/SFP+) ports and six quad small form-factor pluggable plus (QSFP+) 40GbE ports.
  • QFX5100-96S, a 10GbE switch providing 96 dual-mode, small form-factor pluggable transceiver (SFP/SFP+) ports and eight quad small form-factor pluggable plus (QSFP+) 40GbE ports.
  • QFX5100-24Q, a 40GbE switch supporting up to 32 quad small form-factor pluggable plus (QSFP+) ports.
  • QFX5100-48T, a 10GbE switch with 48 tri-speed (10GbE/1GbE/100 Mbps) RJ-45 ports and six quad small form-factor pluggable plus (QSFP+) ports.

For added flexibility, the 40GbE ports on the QFX5100 switches can be used as 4x10GbE ports using QSFP+ to SFP+ direct attach copper (DAC) or QSFP+ to SFP+ fiber splitter cables and optics. For converged server edge access environments, the QFX5100 is also a standards-based FCoE transit switch, protecting investments in existing data center aggregation and Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN) infrastructures.
