After successful authentication, authorization is performed, resulting in the return of policy information to the WLAN AN to provision the session. Subscriber access is provided only to the local IP network such as the Internet or Intranet directly from the WLAN AN.

• Multiple protocol support: The IMS AAA Server performs authentication of subscriber requests from RADIUS and Diameter WLAN ANs, using the EAP-SIM (Extensible Authentication Protocol-Subscriber Identity Module) or EAP-AKA (Extensible Authentication Protocol-Authentication and Key Agreement) protocol.
• 3GPP I-WLAN support: WLAN 3GPP IP access service allows authorized subscribers to access packet switched services in the 3GPP IMS service plane through a secure tunnel. Multiple tunnels can be authorized for previously authenticated subscribers, allowing simultaneous access to any number of services.
• IMS-based AAA:Authentication, authorization, and accounting is performed against an HSS subscriber store.
• Femtocell technology support: Femtocell technology extends cellular service into residential and small business environments. For mobile operators, femtocell reduces cell tower usage, increasing capacity and reducing the cost to address the FMC market.
