SMTP: SquirrelMail Content Type Cross-Side Scripting

This signature detects attempts to exploit a vulnerability in SquirrelMail, a PHP4 Webmail package. Attackers can send email messages that contain Javascript in the Content-Type field; when SquirrelMail receives the message, it can interpret and execute the Javascript, enabling the attacker to compromise the target system.

Extended Description

SquirrelMail is reported to be prone to an email header HTML injection vulnerability. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly sanitize user-supplied email header strings. An attacker can exploit this issue to gain access to an unsuspecting user's cookie based authentication credentials; disclosure of personal email is possible. Other attacks are also possible.
