NNTP: Outlook Express NNTP XHDR Response Overflow

This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in the Outlook Express. A successful attack can lead to a buffer overflow and arbitrary remote code execution within the context of the system.

Extended Description

Microsoft Outlook Express and Windows Mail are prone to a remote heap-based buffer-overflow vulnerability. This issue occurs because the applications fail to perform adequate boundary-checks on user-supplied data. Successfully exploiting this issue will allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the currently logged-in user.
