IDENT: Sendmail Exploit
This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in legacy Sendmail versions. Attackers can embed maliciously formatted commands in the payload of an IDENT response to force Sendmail to execute specific commands.
Extended Description
A vulnerability in the IDENT function of sendmail 8.6.9 allows attackers to obtain remote root access. Very little other information on this vulnerability is currently available; this is an old vulnerability.
