HTTP: VLC Media Player Libmodplug ReadS3M Stack Overflow

This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in the VideoLAN VLC libmodplug s3m parser. A successful attack can lead to a buffer overflow and arbitrary remote code execution within the context of the client.

Extended Description

The libmodplug library is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. An attacker could exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions. Libmodplug 0.8.8.1 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
