HTTP: SoftArtisans XFile FileManager ActiveX Control

This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls in SoftArtisans XFile FileManager. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client browser.

Extended Description

SoftArtisans XFile is prone to multiple buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer. An attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code within the context of application that invoked the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition. Versions prior to SoftArtisans XFile 2.4.0 are vulnerable.
