HTTP: CA eTrust PestPatrol ActiveX
This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls in CA eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client browser.
Extended Description
CA eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware 'ppctl.dl' ActiveX control is prone to a remote stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied input. Attackers can leverage this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application. Successful exploits will compromise the application and the computer. Failed attacks will cause denial-of-service conditions. This issue affects 'ppctl.dll' 5.6.7.9.
