HTTP: Hyleos ChemView ActiveX Buffer Overflow

This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls in the Hyleos ChemView Component. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client browser.

Extended Description

Hyleos ChemView ActiveX control is prone to multiple buffer-overflow vulnerabilities. An attacker can exploit these issues by enticing a victim into viewing a malicious webpage. Successful exploits will allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code within the context of the application that uses the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition. Hyleos ChemView 1.9.5.1 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
