Blue Box Cloud is an OpenStack-based “private cloud as a service” that delivers unparalleled control and massive scale using Juniper routing, security, switching, and automation.
Hernan Alvarez, chief product officer, Blue Box
In 2013, Blue Box introduced Blue Box Cloud, a private cloud delivered “as a service”. The hosted private cloud concept has resonated with businesses, investors, and industry analysts, and Blue Box was recognized in 2014 by the Forrester Hosted Private Cloud Solutions Wave as a “strong performer”.
Blue Box wanted to give customers the best of both worlds: the security and control of a private cloud with the elasticity and ease of use of a public cloud. With Blue Box Cloud, customers can build and manage their own private clouds, while letting the experts at Blue Box manage the rest.
Blue Box Cloud is based on the OpenStack platform for private cloud and a Juniper Networks infrastructure, wrapped in a suite of cloud management tools that Blue Box created. SRX Series Services Gateways protect Blue Box’s core infrastructure, and MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers are used for routing, transit peering, and border termination. Blue Box uses Juniper Networks QFX5100 Ethernet Switch for its core infrastructure and to support customers’ private clouds.
Blue Box can now offer an innovative OpenStack private cloud serviceat scale, providing dedicated networking and security for private cloud service to its customers. It can also deploy new customer firewalls quickly based on automation scripts and templates, bringing up firewalls in hours, rather than days and weeks.
