Delivering on a smart university campus vision with a Juniper infrastructure

Faced with a complex and aging campus network, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute has embraced a Juniper solution based on open standards. The new network enables more than 21,000 students and staff to “simply get connected,” while paving the way for a new generation of smart campus apps, delivered from the cloud.

Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute is the first degree-awarding, higher-education vocational college in China. The university currently has about 20,000 students and a staff of about 1070, of whom 675 are full-time teachers, including 63 professors and associate professors.

"Deployment of the Juniper Networks campus network solution is a big step forward, enabling us to build a smart campus that offers a new generation of mobile apps to staff and students."
Su Xinglong Director of Network and Information Center, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute

Business Challenge

An aging network needed to make way for the university’s smart campus vision by eliminating network performance bottlenecks, management complexity, and proprietary lock-ins—allowing tens of thousands of mobile users to get connected and paving the way for increased data center virtualization and a new generation of smart campus apps.

Business Solution

Deployment of MX960 routers in the network core delivers not only massive scalability, but also integrated broadband access server functionality that supports agentless network authentication that’s based on open standards. EX Series switches in the campus and data center networks deliver wire-speed performance with simplified network management.

Business Results

Shaanxi Polytechnic now has mobile connectivity for tens of thousands of users across its campus, with a simplified network that takes far less time and effort to administer.

"While other vendors were able to provide broadband remote access servers, Juniper Networks’ design was clearly better, as it consolidated BNG and core network switching into a single, highly scalable and reliable platform."
Su Xinglong Director of Network and Information Center, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute
