Mobile Infrastructure

The rise of the smartphone is driving a rapid convergence between the mobile industry and the Internet. These mobile computers are changing the way mobile networks are built, and Juniper’s long leadership in IP/MPLS infrastructure is helping operators navigate this transition with cutting-edge products.

IP/MPLS Backbone Routers

Juniper has long been a leading supplier of IP/MPLS backbone routers for both wireline and mobile operators, including Juniper Networks M Series Multiservice Edge Routers, MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers and T Series Core Routers. Juniper extends its leadership here with cutting-edge core products such as Juniper Networks PTX Series Packet Transport Switches. All Juniper routers run Juniper Networks Junos operating system, widely regarded as the most feature-rich, flexible and modern OS in the mobile industry.

Gi Network Services

Juniper is a leader in products for Gi networks that sit between the GGSN (or home agent in a CDMA network) and the end network, and offer services such as carrier-grade NAT, stateful firewall, server load balancing, DNS, video and Web optimization, switching/routing, VPNs and more. The M Series, MX Series routers and Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways have all been broadly deployed in these applications and are well suited to providing best-in-class services at very high speeds through the hardware acceleration of many functions.

Mobile Packet Core

Juniper Networks MobileNext solution represents Juniper’s entry into the mobile packet core with a complete end-to-end solution. We have long been a supplier of the technology that forms the basis for the very successful Ericsson GGSN, the most broadly deployed mobile packet gateway in the industry. With the MobileNext solution, we are introducing a product that has been architected from the beginning to focus on a smartphone-centric world that demands scalability, security and service velocity.

RAN Backhaul and Encryption

The rapid increase in data traffic is overwhelming legacy backhaul networks. Forward-looking operators are pulling fiber to the base station and then are running IP over MPLS over Ethernet. This approach dramatically lowers the cost per bit for RAN backhaul. Juniper has long been a leader in IP/MPLS technology and has developed a series or routers specifically designed to address the cell site router opportunity. Many LTE operators are also looking to encrypt these links. Scalable IPsec implementations are an integral part of our RAN backhaul products.

The Smartphone

Juniper Networks Junos Pulse client is the most widely deployed and successful SSL VPN client in the smartphone industry. The Pulse story gets even stronger with Juniper Networks Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite, which adds capabilities such as personal firewall, remote device wipe, spam filters, device management and much more.

Mobile Packet Core

The MobileNext architecture provides a packet core solution that is open, secure and scalable. Open architectures encourage innovation in service creation and greater service velocity. The net result for the operator is greater competitive differentiation and increased revenue.

Security is essential as more and more content moves onto the Internet.

Scalability is required to address the 100 percent year-over-year growth in data traffic. Control plane scalability can often be more challenging than data plane scalability. The MobileNext architecture offers a compelling solution that addresses these areas and much more.

Gi Network Services

A host of IP transport services are required to support mobile data deployments. These services are usually provided by a long chain of point products that are deployed on Gi networks. Services include carrier-grade NAT, stateful firewall, server load balancing, VPNs, routing/switching and video optimization.

These services can now be consolidated onto one platform with the announcement of Juniper Networks Service Delivery Gateway. In addition to a broad service portfolio, operators using the SDG can leverage Juniper Networks Junos SDK for greater service innovation. Gi network services can also run on Juniper Networks MobileNext Broadband Gateway for greater deployment flexibility.

RAN Backhaul

The rapid increase in data traffic is overwhelming legacy backhaul networks. Forward-looking operators are pulling fiber to the base station and then running IP over MPLS over Ethernet. This approach dramatically lowers the cost per bit for RAN backhaul. Juniper has long been a leader in IP/MPLS technology and plans to launch a series of cell site routers specifically designed to address the RAN backhaul opportunity.
