Fiber Network Revitalizes Office Park Tenancy

After the City of Dublin, Ohio, attracted larger businesses with a citywide fiber network, it set out to extend the same benefits to smaller businesses.

Dublin, Ohio, is home to Cardinal Health, Wendy’s, Nationwide Insurance, OhioHealth, and other well-known large companies. The city is growing thanks to well-paying jobs, digital inclusion in schools, and a strong community. Dublin wanted to similarly motivate smaller businesses to put down roots.

Business Challenge

The City of Dublin in Ohio wanted to attract small, high-growth businesses and revitalize legacy office space. Prime office space and new construction fill up fast in Dublin, but it was more difficult to find tenants for legacy office space. The city subsidized high-speed access to its citywide fiber network to tempt smaller businesses.

Technology Solution

The city teamed with Metro Data Center on the design and implementation of a Juniper infrastructure comprising MX960 3D Universal Edge Routers for 100 Gbps connectivity, EX3300 Ethernet Switches for fiber access, and SRX220 Services Gateways for security. Junos Space Network Director simplifies and automates the management of the equipment.

"In the past, fiber was affordable only to Fortune 500 companies. The city has been very innovative to provide a high-speed network, data center, and a community of service providers to [small and midsized businesses]."
Rob Kopp Cofounder, President, and COO, Metro Data Center
