Network and cloud capacity needs are rising rapidly, hence Eurofiber is further expanding the network edge with highly featured nodes to continue to meet the connectivity needs of clients in the Netherlands and Belgium. Looking ahead, the provider wants to offer its services at even higher speeds and have sufficient capacity ready for new clients. At the same time, these services must be highly reliable to continue to meet its status as the Dutch government’s “vital infrastructure.”
Juniper’s extensible routing solutions and intelligent automation that simplifies network operations were a perfect match for Eurofiber’s goals.
Migrating to Juniper’s Cloud Metro routers created a sustainable architecture that optimized network scalability and bandwidth efficiency, enabling a smooth upgrade of Eurofiber’s dense metro networks in the Netherlands to 100 Gbps. The compact, environmentally rated Juniper ACX routers support multiservice applications. With ACX7348 routers, Eurofiber has the port density it needs today—with an investment- protected path to reach 400GE capacity in the future.
Juniper at every layer
Eurofiber has relied on Juniper routing for a decade. Its core and peering layers are powered by Juniper MX960 routers and Juniper MX204 routers are used for the aggregation layer.
To scale its services, Eurofiber is upgrading from ACX5000 routers to ACX7348 routers in its metro network and data centers to improve network reliability at its access layer and support 100GbE in its metro rings. The next-generation ACX7348 delivers advanced capabilities such as MPLS, SRv6, Ethernet VPN-Virtual Extensible LAN, advanced programmability, and telemetry.
Eurofiber worked with Nomios, its IT systems integrator, on the metro network upgrade.

Now Eurofiber can scale its network and data center services as it directly connects even more universities, hospitals, energy providers, business parks, and other customers and at higher speeds. The port density, active-active redundancy, and service capabilities of the ACX7348 support rapid and reliable service delivery to customers with an investment-protected expansion to 400GbE.
Efficiently meet growing capacity needs
With ACX7000 routers, Eurofiber can serve customers’ growing needs for higher speed business internet, Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), Ethernet VPN, and IP VPN services. The ACX is also adaptable and can be used for aggregation and to connect customers at 1Gbps, 10Gbps, or higher.
Deliver reliable services
“Eurofiber delivers high availability services to business and government customers,” said Idzenga. The ACX routers run Juniper Junos Evolved (Junos EVO), which provides the reliability, agility, and programmability that Eurofiber needs to efficiently operate its metro networks.
Rugged and secure
The ACX is well suited for metro networks. The compact router fits neatly into Eurofiber’s street cabinets and handles temperatures as low as zero degrees Celsius and as high as 55 degrees Celsius. MACsec encryption and other advanced security capabilities protect data privacy.
