Skills Transformation Service

The Juniper Skills Transformation Service (infographic) is a comprehensive, tailored learning solution designed to transform the skills of an entire enterprise — including technical and non-technical staff — in key technology networking domains such as automation, artificial intelligence, cloud, security, and more.

Why transform skills?

The need to transform skills is driven by the rapid evolution of networks and the demands placed upon them. Consider that:

  • 50 percent of all organizations will be using cloud-based network management platforms by 20251
  • 41 billion IoT devices in the world by 20272
  • 80 percent of organizations will undergo change in security structure by 20223
  • 49 percent of enterprises consider automation a ‘major priority’ in the next 1–2 years4

Enterprise networks must evolve to support these challenges.

Adding to the urgency, IT leaders must contend with attrition rates averaging 20–25 percent annually. That’s the equivalent of a quarter of an IT team’s skills walking out the door each year. Skill development and transformation has become an essential business requirement to ensure team readiness.

Successful enterprise transformation requires buy-in from all groups within your organization, not just the network engineers. With this in mind, Juniper can develop a holistic learning plan that provides relevant learning for all audiences.

  • Technical functions
How to learn and implement the new technologies, ongoing management of technology, and continued skills management.
  • Supporting functions
Basic literacy of the technology, the need for transformation, and understanding how their role ties to the transformation’s success.
  • Management functions
Understanding the transformation’s business case, how to engage with and support employees, and how to connect external parties (as needed) to the transformation.

The Juniper process

1. Analysis

Given the importance of the technical roles in transforming the network, we use our award-winning5 Knowledge Skills Assessment (KSA) in the analysis phase to evaluate the team members’ skill sets. This drives the scale and scope of the training engagement and allows for informed recommendations.

The comprehensive KSA skills assessment tool measures the skill levels of your network engineering team. The results enable us to create a custom training plan for skills transformation and identify areas for growth.

2. Design

With team and individual skills known, we design the training plan around the desired future skills of each engineer and team. Oftentimes this involves developing skills aligned to new roles and advanced networking technologies, such as automation, AI/ML, and cloud. While traditional networking skills remain relevant, supporting a transformed, modern network requires engineers to adopt new roles such as network reliability, DevOps, and automation engineers.

3. Develop

We use a variety of content sources to develop the training plan, including, but not limited to, our own technical training courses, industry-standard training materials, and custom-developed content. Where appropriate, we will align the training plan with Juniper Certifications as a means to validate the skills gained.

4. Deliver

Juniper then delivers a comprehensive learning program based on the KSA to ensure your IT teams have the skills needed to derive the highest performance from their Juniper Networks solutions. Juniper training programs improve on the traditional private or custom training-class model by incorporating prerequisite and post-requisite training, certification, and sustaining components. This develops an end-to-end training solution that delivers effective knowledge transfer and skills growth.

5. Feedback

Throughout the process we use feedback and metrics to improve the design and delivery of current and future training. Technical staff attrition, shifting business priorities, and advances in networking technology often serve as catalysts for the adjustment of training and are routinely incorporated in the feedback phase.
