Removing a C3000 or C5000 Fan Module
C3000 and C5000 Controllers have three fan modules located on the rear of the chassis. The fan module is a hot-removable and hot-insertable field replaceable unit (FRU): You can remove and replace it without powering off the controller or disrupting controller functions.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:
- A Phillips (+) screwdriver, number 2
To remove a fan module from a C3000 or C5000 Controller (see Figure 1):
- Loosen the captive screws on either side of the fan module.
- Grasp the captive screws and slide the fan module out of the chassis.

Installing a C3000 or C5000 Fan Module
C3000 and C5000 Controllers have three fan modules located on the rear of the chassis. The fan module is a hot-removable and hot-insertable field replaceable unit (FRU): You can remove and replace it without powering off the controller or disrupting controller functions.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:
- A Phillips (+) screwdriver, number 2
To install the fan module in a C3000 or C5000 Controller (see Figure 2):
- Remove the fan module from its bag.
- Using both hands, align the fan module with the guides on the fan module slot on the rear panel of the chassis.
- Slide the fan module into the fan module slot until it is firmly seated.
- Tighten both captive screws to secure the fan.
