    Redirect Tool Overview

The Redirect Tool provides authorization and authentication for remote devices requesting a boot image and initial configuration files. When the Redirect Tool authenticates a remote device, the Redirect Tool sends contact details for the assigned regional server to the remote device. The remote device then communicates directly with the regional server. You add information about regional servers and remote devices, but not central servers, to the Redirect Tool.

Caution: You must add a remote device and assign a regional server to it in the Redirect Tool before an end user powers on the remote device for initial provisioning. Otherwise, initial provisioning of the remote device fails.

Before you add new remote devices and regional servers in the Redirect Tool:

    1. Install Network Activator on the central and regional servers.
    2. Set up new devices and regional servers in Network Activator.

You must add information to the Redirect Tool when you:

    • Add a regional server to the network.
    • Remove a regional server from the network.
    • Modify the hostname, communication port, or X.509 certificate for a regional server.
    • Add a new device at a remote site.
    • Terminate management of a device at a remote site.
    • Assign a new regional server to a remote device.
