Remove / Re-Use Device

Unassign Device from Blueprint

  1. From the blueprint, navigate to Staged > Physical > Build > Devices, and click the status indicator for Assigned System IDs (if the nodes list is not already displayed). Click the name of the node, remove the system ID (S/N) and save your changes.
  2. Commit changes to the blueprint to remove the device from the fabric. The device is still under Apstra management. It's ready and available to be assigned to the same blueprint or another one.

Take Device out of Apstra Management

Devices that the Apstra software is no longer managing are disconnected from the Apstra server and removed from the Apstra database. For successful device removal, follow the steps in the order listed.

  1. After removing the device from the blueprint, set the admin state of the device to DECOMM.
  2. Uninstall the device agent.
  3. Delete the device agent.
  4. Delete the device system from the managed devices list.
    Note:

If you are decommissioning a faulty device and replacing it with another one for RMA using the same management IP address, make sure that the original device has been decommissioned before the new device is assigned, as each device is expected to have a unique management IP address.

Delete Device

CAUTION:

You can't simply delete devices that have been acknowledged. Since the device would still have an active agent installed, the devices would re-appear within seconds. There are additional steps required before deleting a device (such as unassigning the device from the blueprint, setting the admin state, and uninstalling/deleting the agent).

Note:

You can also delete a device from any of the detail views (Device, Agent, Pristine Config, Telemetry.)

  1. From the left navigation menu, navigate to Devices > Managed Devices and select the check box(es) for the device(s) to remove.
  2. Click the Delete system(s) button (above table), then click Confirm to remove the device(s) and return to the list view.

Replace / Re-Use Device

If you are removing a device that will be replaced, follow the steps above for removing a device from Apstra management, then add the device to Managed Devices.

There may be times when you want to remove a device from one blueprint and reuse it in a different one. In this case, you'll need to take the device configuration to a pre-Apstra state and then completely re-onboard the device.
