EBGP for the Overlay

This section briefly describes EBGP for the overlay feature and its configuration on the QFX5220, QFX5230, QFX5240, and QFX5241 Switches.

Overview

External Border Gateway Protocol (EBGP) for the overlay means using EVPN signaling and peering in the VXLAN overlay networks, specifically in IPv6 fabric designs on the QFX5220, QFX5230, QFX5240, and QFX5241 Switches. EBGP peers between IPv6 loopback addresses of these QFX Series switches to handle EVPN signaling for VXLAN tunnels. This feature simplifies scaling in EVPN-VXLAN fabrics, enhances reliability with BFD, and supports efficient load balancing in multistage Clos topologies.

Configure EBGP for the Overlay

To enable EBGP and set router ID:

To configure EBGP group and neighbors for the spine and leaf overlay:

To add BFD for multihop overlay sessions:

Verify EBGP for the Overlay Configuration

To verify that EBGP is functional on the QFX5220, QFX5230, QFX5240, and QFX5241 Switches:

To view detailed overlay session details such as status, configuration, and statistics for BGP neighbors:

To view overlay routes in case EVPN is configured:
