Configuration Templates Overview
Use this topic to understand template-based configuration of routers in Juniper Routing Assurance.
As networks scale, managing configurations manually becomes increasingly complex and error-prone. Administrators must ensure consistent configurations across routers while still accommodating site-specific requirements. Without a centralized, template-driven approach, configuration management can result in misconfiguration, inconsistent policies, slow deployments, and increased operational overhead.
In large and distributed environments, one of the key challenges is maintaining visibility into where configurations are applied and understanding the impact of these configuration changes before deployment. Manual device-by-device configuration methods make it difficult to standardize settings, track configuration usage, and efficiently roll out updates. Frequent configuration changes, a growing number of routers, and the need for rapid deployments further strain manual workflows.
To address these challenges, Juniper Routing Assurance provides a template-based router configuration model. This approach allows administrators to centrally create, reuse, and manage configuration templates, reducing manual effort and configuration drift. Administrators can clearly see which templates are assigned to each site, understand how many routers are affected, and make changes either at the site or template level. Support for creating templates, customizing them with additional CLI commands, cloning, importing, exporting, and safely deleting templates enables controlled configuration management in Juniper Routing Assurance.
Benefits of Configuring Routers using Templates
-
Centralized configuration management─Manage router configurations across all sites from a single location, improving visibility and control.
-
Improved consistency and standardization─Apply configuration templates to ensure uniform settings across routers and sites.
-
Scalable configuration updates─Perform single or bulk updates efficiently as the network grows.
-
Reduced operational effort─Minimize manual configuration tasks through reusable templates and bulk actions.
-
Faster deployment and changes─Create, clone, and reuse templates to accelerate configuration roll out and modifications.
-
Better impact awareness─View site and device counts to understand the scope of configuration changes before applying them.
