Juniper Routing Assurance Overview

Clear, real-time visibility into the health and functioning of routing infrastructure is essential for ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and consistent user experience. Visibility into network operations helps administrators proactively respond to events that affect network performance.

In this context, observability plays a critical role in modern networks. Observability extends beyond traditional network monitoring and focuses on assessing the state and performance of network devices using telemetry data.

As enterprise networks expand and become more complex, traditional monitoring methods and ad hoc tools like scripts fail to deliver adequate insight or actionable intelligence. The insights collected by these tools are often inconsistent and offer a limited view of the routing platform. This limitation leaves critical blind spots, including packet drops, congestion, and peering quality issues, undetected in enterprise networks.

Juniper Routing Assurance addresses this challenge by providing AI‑native observability and assurance for routing platforms. Juniper Routing Assurance is an AIOps-based Day 2 assurance platform that extends observability beyond the access layer to enterprise and WAN routing platforms. Built on the Mist AI cloud architecture, the platform ingests rich telemetry from Junos® and Junos® Evolved operating systems to continuously analyze routing behavior, performance trends, and anomalies.

Unlike traditional tools with fragmented insights, Juniper Routing Assurance offers experience-focused visibility. Administrators can assess router status, performance quality, and root causes of issues. This AI‑driven approach shortens mean time to innocence (MTTI) and mean time to repair (MTTR) through automated correlation and root cause analysis.

Juniper Routing Assurance supports the following features:

  • Telemetry and Actionable Insights─Juniper Routing Assurance provides visibility across the following domains:

    • Platform─Insights into router health and hardware components, including CPU and memory utilization, temperature, power, and optics.
    • Forwarding─Interface utilization, queue depth, congestion indicators, packet drops, and errors.
    • Routing─Routing events, protocol state, BGP and OSPF summaries, peer status, and routing table statistics.

These insights are presented through dashboards, tables, and time-series graphs to support efficient troubleshooting and operational decision-making. For more information, see Router Insights Overview.

  • AI-Driven Day 2 Operations─Juniper Routing Assurance supports one‑step, cloud-based onboarding of routers, allowing administrators to start gaining visibility and insights within minutes. For Day 2 operations, Juniper Routing Assurance correlates routing events including configuration changes with performance metrics to improve operational awareness, proactively detect anomalies and reduce troubleshooting time.

  • Enterprise and WAN Routing Use Cases─As an AI‑native routing observability platform, Juniper Routing Assurance supports routers deployed across WAN edge, branch and campus edge, peering locations (cloud connect and partners), and Internet gateways. It enables administrators to assess routing health at organization-wide and site-specific levels, ensuring consistent service quality across distributed environments.

To see the list of routers that Juniper Routing Assurance supports, see Supported Hardware Platforms.

  • Marvis Actions for Routing─Juniper Routing Assurance integrates Marvis®, Juniper’s AI–native network support model. Marvis for Routing uses the Marvis AI engine to ingest and analyze network event data collected from routers, and provides actionable insights to users. Marvis Actions analyzes, network conditions, highlights potential issues, and recommends corrective actions.

With Marvis Actions, administrators can move from alert detection to resolution more quickly, improving operational efficiency while reducing downtime and operational costs. For more information, see Marvis Actions Overview.

  • Marvis AI Assistant─Enables administrators to quickly search within product documentation for relevant troubleshooting information to resolve the events. Marvis AI Assistant for Juniper Routing Assurance also provides a conversational interface, which administrators can use to ask queries in natural language and get relevant responses. With the help of Marvis AI Assistant, you can also resolve issues, reduce the need to create support tickets, and accelerate the time to resolution. For more information, see Marvis AI Assistant Overview.

  • Service Level Expectations (SLEs)─SLEs quantify and continuously measure the routing experience across the network. AI‑driven SLEs aggregate key performance indicators such as router health, throughput, interface quality, and routing stability into clear, easy‑to‑interpret scores.

By monitoring deviations from normal behavior, SLEs enable proactive anomaly detection, helping administrators identify potential issues such as congestion, packet loss, or latency before they escalate into service‑impacting incidents. For more information see, Service-Level Expectations Overview.

Enterprises face a multitude of complexities and challenges. But regardless of the industry, limited resources are almost always at the top of the list with 86% of CIOs claiming a lack of skilled workers. This has driven a strong demand for automation tools, which help IT teams meet emerging business needs while keeping costs to a minimum.

For distributed enterprises, the need for automation is especially critical when it comes to the wide area network. Whether running SD-WAN, SaaS, or traditional routers in branch locations, the need for agile, scalable, and reliable operations is Paramount.

Juniper Mist routing Assurance, the latest addition to our AI-native networking platform, is key to delivering on this objective. It brings Juniper's high performance, versatile MX and ACX edge routers under the premier Mist AI engine and cloud.

As an AI-native and cloud-native service, Routing Assurance simplifies operations and delivers the most effective way to monitor, analyze, and resolve issues swiftly across multiple branch offices, WAN edges and peering locations.

Let's dig in and look at how this Innovative solution works.

First, you'll be able to easily onboard your Juniper routers such as MX304, MX204, and ACX7024. Your operations team can do this in minutes with our highly intuitive user interface driven by Mist AI. It's SaaS. So, there's no overhead, no installation, and no infrastructure to maintain.

Then, simply begin to extract insights and monitor your routers. You'll extract key metrics like temperatures, speeds, versions, locations, workload reachability, physical inventory, BGP status, class of service, and queuing.

You can easily visualize events like configuration changes, analyze their performance impacts, check the EOL/EOS status of their entire installed base. You can also see security and vulnerability issues whether it's SIRTs or bug notifications affecting the network.

Simple, right?

Exactly! Simplicity is the whole point!

But there's more. You now have a single source for WAN router events, suggested corrective Actions, and service level expectations or SLE that optimize device health. This same source also manages activities for SD-WAN and SaaS for complete WAN automation insight and assurance.

And wired access, wireless access, and the data center are also part of the Mist AI and Cloud umbrella for broad value and cost savings across an entire distributed enterprise.

In addition, Marvis, the first and only AI-native virtual network assistant with conversational AI has also been extended to the enterprise routing domain.

Marvis empowers your team with chat assistance allowing faster documentation search, and will improve performance degradation, troubleshooting, and offer recommended remediation actions. With Mist Routing Assurance and Marvis VNA for routing, distributed enterprises can now easily deploy and manage Juniper's proven and sustainable edge routers with all the AI-native assurance and cost savings delivered via the Mist AI portfolio.

Juniper's AI-native networking platform with industry-leading automation lets you do more with less, driving increased value to your business while saving time and money.
