Installation

Address Pool manager 3.6.0 installation requires the minimum system requirements listed in this section.

The BNG CUPS Controller can be installed on a single geography cluster or on a multiple geography setup. The installation requirements and installation process for these two types of setups are different.

For information on how to install APM, see Address Pool Manager Installation Guide.

APM installs on a Kubernetes cluster comprised of physical or virtual machines (VMs).

For the Kubernetes cluster requirements, see Table 1.

Kubernetes cluster

The Kubernetes cluster requires the following:

  • Node software specification:

    • Use one of the following for Kubernetes distribution:

      • RedHat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP) 4.18.31 or 4.20.18. Configured with the following:

        • OS: CoreOS (compatible with the RHOCP version that you are using)

        • CNI: OVN (compatible with the version of RHOCP that you are using)

        • CSI: Longhorn version 1.11.1

        • Network Load Balancer: MetalLB (compatible with the version of RHOCP that you are using)

        • Container Image Registry: OpenShift Container Image Registry (compatible with the version of RHOCP that you are using)

        • NmState Operator (compatible with the version of RHOCP that you are using)

        • Submariner version 0.23.1 (required for multiple geography setups only)

      • Rancher Kubernetes Engine2 (RKE2) 1.35.4+rke2r1. Configured with the following:

        • OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or 24.04 LTS

        • NFS: 22.04: 1:2.6.1-1ubuntu1.2 or NFS: 24.04: 1:2.6.4-3ubuntu5.1

        • CNI: Canal (compatible with the version of RKE2 that you are using)

        • CSI: Longhorn version 1.11.1

        • Network load balancer: MetalLB version 0.15.3

        • Container image registry: Registry version 2.8.3

        • Virtual IP: Kubevip version 1.1.2

        • Submariner version 0.23.1 (required for multiple geography setups only)

      • BBE Cloudsetup utility version 2.1.1—Used for proof of concept (PoC) or demonstration clusters only.

Jump host software

The jump host requires the following software:

  • Operating system: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

  • Helm version 3.18.4

  • Docker version 28.3.2-1

  • Containerd version 1.7.27-1

  • Python version 3.12

  • Longhornctl version 1.11.1

  • Submariner CLI (subctl) version 0.23.1 (required for multiple geography setups only)

  • Compatible OpenShift and Kubernetes CLI (aligned to the version of the Kubernetes distribution on the cluster being managed by the jumphost).

Additional Requirements

The BNG is a Juniper Networks MX Series router running Junos, or a Juniper BNG CUPS Controller (BNG CUPS Controller).

We recommend the following releases:

  • Junos OS Release 23.4R2-S8 or later

  • BNG CUPS Controller 26.2R2 or later

For APM, confirm that you have a juniper.net user account with permissions to download the APM software package. Download and install the APM software from a machine that will not be part of the Kubernetes cluster.
