sample-once

Syntax

Hierarchy Level

Description

Explicitly sample a packet for active monitoring only once. When you configure the sample-once statement, the ingress interface sets a flag for any packets that it selects for sampling, and the egress interface does not sample any flagged packets. Setting this option avoids duplication of packets in cases where sampling is enabled at both the ingress and egress interfaces and simplifies analysis of the sampled traffic.

Note:

The sampling works independently on the ingress and egress interfaces. If the sample rate is 1, the ingress interface samples and flags all packets arriving at the interface. However, if the sample rate is higher than 1, then the ingress interface may sample and flag only a subset of packets, as determined by the configured sampling parameters. The ingress and egress interfaces may contain different sets of packets in their sampling windows. As a result, if the ingress interface does not sample (and flag) a packet in a given sampling window, the egress interface may still sample that same packet as part of its sampling window.
