HEAnet provides the network infrastructure services for Ireland’s education system, and worked with Juniper Networks and Juniper partner Agile Networks to vastly improve secure access to online learning opportunities by using Web streaming and secure browsing.
Ronan Byrne, CTO, HEAnet
As they faced rapidly growing trends including as e-books, bring-your-own-device (BYOD), Wi-Fi, and cloud computing, Irish schools needed greater network security, bandwidth, and performance, so the government turned to HEAnet to implement a large-scale network upgrade.
In order to provide high-speed digital learning to 730 Irish secondary schools, HEAnet needed a network that would include Web filtering capabilities to protect children from inappropriate content, and also be a cost-effective solution capable of providing 100MB bandwidth to each connected school, even schools in remote areas.
After looking at key players in the market, HEAnet settled on Juniper Networks and Juniper partner Agile Networks to implement a cost-effective infrastructure that was secure, reliable, and fast.
Tremendous changes are already taking place in the schools connected by HEAnet:
The network now provides vastly improved secure access to Internet and online resources.
Students have enhanced learning opportunities through Web streaming and secure browsing.
Juniper platforms provide high performance with multiple levels of security.
