TDC Denmark Moves to New High-Performance Core with Juniper Networks T1600 Routers

Danish Incumbent Improves Performance, Scale and Total Cost of Ownership with Industry's Most Energy-Efficient Core Router

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 12, 2009 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that TDC, the leading telecoms provider in Denmark, is building a new network with the T1600 Core Router. The network will carry all of TDC's residential broadband and business multimedia traffic, as well as all of the data and voice traffic generated by TDC's cable and mobile operator subsidiaries. TDC will migrate to a Juniper-based IP/MPLS core to improve network performance, scalability and efficiency, enabling the company to better respond to an unprecedented growth in traffic and the performance demands created by bandwidth-rich multimedia applications, including video and mobile applications.

"Efficiency, performance and scale have become the cornerstones of our business, as customer demand for high-quality multimedia services and applications has accelerated, and we found our existing infrastructure to lack the flexibility and capacity we required," said Jess Ibsen, executive vice president and CTO of TDC's Fixed Nordic operations. "The alternative provided by Juniper's T1600 improves efficiency, scale and performance, as well as increased 40 Gigabit capabilities. When combined with JUNOS Software, which reduces complexity, the Juniper solution delivers operational excellence and significantly lowers total cost of ownership."

TDC currently has a 70 percent share of the Danish DSL market, and is a leader in other areas with a total customer base of 7.8 million across Denmark. The company is also growing its operations in Finland, Norway and Sweden with a range of business-based services. TDC's approach to service development is highly innovative - it was the first telecoms provider globally to offer free music downloads as part of a "broadband bundle" with its PLAY service in March 2008. This innovation makes it highly competitive, but in turn demands more of the network in terms of capacity, reliability and performance.

"TDC's migration of its core network to a pure Juniper infrastructure is a powerful testament to the scalability, performance and efficiency advantages of Juniper's T Series and JUNOS Software," said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations in EMEA, Juniper Networks. "Service providers need to differentiate themselves and demonstrate unique value to customers and content providers, and with Juniper, TDC is now able to operate a powerful network that delivers choice and flexibility, while lowering total cost of ownership."

The Juniper Networks T1600 Core Router addresses service providers' requirement for highly scalable, high-performance core routing at a fraction of the size of competitive offerings. The T1600 delivers up to 1.6 Tbps of capacity (100 Gbps/slot), while delivering industry-leading energy efficiency. With more than 4,800 platforms shipped to more than 220 customers worldwide, the T Series is the industry's most proven, scalable, feature-rich and flexible core routing platform with the scale, performance, reliability and security required by the world's most demanding IP networks.
