Taiwan's Leading Service Provider Builds Next-Generation Core with Juniper Networks T-series

High-Performance T640 Core Routers to Form Cornerstone of Chunghwa Telecom's FMC Strategy

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 8, 2008 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Taiwan's leading service provider, Chunghwa Telecom, is building a unified IP core network with Juniper Networks T-series core routers. The next-generation IP core will underpin Chunghwa Telecom's fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) strategy and support its entire suite of advanced services, including fixed line, Internet access, and mobile telecommunications services.

The single IP core will help Chunghwa Telecom to reduce operational costs and to rapidly launch new access technologies and revenue-generating services including VoIP; 2G, 2.5G and 3G mobile; Fiber to the Building (FTTB); IP VPN; Video-on-Demand and high-density broadband aggregation.

"This is an important and exciting agreement for Chunghwa Telecom, especially considering it is the first contract for our five-year NGN renewal plan. IMS is a key technology to further develop VoIP services and next generation telecommunications. We are proud to be the first operator in Taiwan, and in Asia Pacific, to deploy IMS-based VoIP," said Mr Hsieh Chun-Ming, president of Taiwan Northern Business Group, Chunghwa Telecom.

Juniper Networks T-series is the industry's most proven core routing platform, with well over 3,000 units shipped to customers since the platform was first introduced. Leveraging the modular JUNOS operating system, the T-series provides unmatched system scale, reliability and performance, making it the ideal core platform for large scale deployments in the world's most demanding networks.

"Service providers in Asia are migrating to next-generation, unified core networks that speed service delivery and reduce operational costs by supporting many advanced services on a single network," said Adam Judd, Juniper's vice president of Asia Pacific. "This helps to drive demand for the high-performance T-series and modular JUNOS software, a trend reflected by Chunghwa Telecom's decision to form its IP strategy around our flagship router family."
