Juniper Networks Fortifies Inner Mongolia Power with a High-Performance Network Infrastructure

Juniper's Integrated Firewall/Intrusion Detection and Prevention Platforms Help Safeguard Public Utility Network and Accelerate the Delivery of Vital Resources across Inner Mongolia

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 14, 2007 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Inner Mongolia Power will power and protect its network infrastructure with Juniper Networks Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) 1000 and ISG 2000 firewalls to accelerate the delivery of vital services to its citizens. By leveraging the integrated intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) security modules for Juniper's ISG firewalls to combat both known attacks and unknown vulnerabilities, Inner Mongolia Power has created a trusted and responsive network environment that helps ensure the utility's continuous and safe operation.

Inner Mongolia Power is the only large-scale state-owned power enterprise in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It has been rapidly evolving its information infrastructure, including increasing integration among the 12 power supply enterprises and related organizations supported by its IP wide-area network (WAN) in order to deliver services across a highly distributed and trusted environment. As a result, network security became paramount, with the company especially concerned about protecting against network-propagated worms and viruses.

"We view the network as critical to our business and required a high-performance security solution that could keep pace with our network's escalating operational requirements," said Yao Qiang, vice director of the Information Center of Inner Mongolia Power. "Our IP-based WAN runs at some 662 Mbps and we needed reliable protection at scale. We are very pleased with Juniper's open, systems-based approach which delivers unmatched scalability for our dynamic network environment, and comprehensive protection with the integration of firewall and IDP capabilities. Such integration gives us greater choice and control in meeting our high-performance needs, while reducing the cost and complexity of separately deploying and managing IDP devices."

Juniper's ISG series FW/VPN platforms are purpose-built, high-performance integrated security gateways designed to deliver scalable, reliable connectivity and advanced network and application-level protection for the network gateway. Juniper's ISG 1000 and ISG 2000 platforms are ideally suited for securing enterprise, carrier and data center environments where advanced applications such as VoIP and streaming media dictate consistent, scalable performance. The ISG Series can be upgraded to support full IPS capability via integrated IDP security modules to provide robust network and application layer protection against current and emerging threats.

"Public utilities absolutely rely on their networks and depend on high-performance security solutions to ensure undisrupted customer service," said Zhang Xiaolin, general manager of Juniper Networks China. "Just as reliable electrical power is fundamental to the continued advancement of developing locations across Asia Pacific, so is the robust network security that underpins an organization's operational efficiency and sustained growth."
