Juniper Networks Offers Best-in-Class Unified Threat Management with Enhanced Firewall/VPN Operating System

New ScreenOS Software Enables Customers To Address Evolving Threats

SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 28, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced enhancements to its ScreenOS, the real-time, security-specific operating system for its firewall (FW) and IPSec Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliances. The new ScreenOS 5.4 enhancements give customers new tools to battle emerging content security threats. Tools include best-in-class Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features, captive redirect and policy-based routing.

"We are very excited to offer customers a complete set of UTM security features, including IPS, Antivirus (includes Anti-Spyware, Anti-Adware, Anti-Phishing), Anti-Spam, and Web Filtering, for the SSG Family of products to help protect their networks against all manner of attacks. Combined with the proven stateful firewall and IPSec VPN, this complete set of UTM features will greatly increase network attack detection and prevention at branch offices," said Hitesh Sheth, VP of Security Products at Juniper Networks. "Juniper Networks continues to provide the most secure FW/VPN solutions with integrated UTM security features to meet the heightened security and technology needs of organizations."

"Juniper's updated ScreenOS release offers holistic content security solutions for branch office to large enterprise networks," said Charles Kolodgy, Secure Content and Threat Management Products director at IDC. "Organizations with multiple office locations have differing requirements and are looking to standardize and improve overall perimeter security to address L3-L7 threats. With the new ScreenOS, Juniper Networks is providing embedded security solutions that enforce security from the network- to application-level, at key points throughout the network, to effectively mitigate risk and handle the dynamic threats and security needs of the modern enterprise."

Through best-in-class partners like Kaspersky, SurfControl and Symantec, the new ScreenOS operating system's UTM security features help protect traffic flowing in and out of the branch office from worms, spyware, trojans, and malware. In addition to UTM security features, the new ScreenOS now enables virtually all Juniper FW/VPN platforms - including the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) Family and the Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) Family with Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) security modules - to function as network access control enforcers in a Unified Access Control (UAC) environment. ScreenOS 5.4 also introduces captive portal functionality to Juniper's UAC solution, allowing for automatic redirect of new or unauthenticated users to the Juniper Infranet Controller for user authentication and endpoint security posture verification prior to granting access and ongoing access to network resources. This enables seamless access control that is transparent to end users.

The new ScreenOS policy-based routing capability allows network administrators to define security policies that will complement existing FW/VPN protection and traffic analysis capabilities by forwarding data packets based on parameters such as source, destination and protocol to a third-party solution for more granular analysis or inspection. In the battle against emerging attacks, policy-based routing greatly expands the options that customers can use to achieve and maintain network security.

Availability

Juniper Networks ScreenOS 5.4 is available now for the entire family of integrated FW/VPN appliances including the Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) Series and the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) Family. The optional UTM features are available only on the NetScreen-Hardware Security Client (HSC), NetScreen-5GT Series and the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) Family and may require payment of annual subscription fees to activate. ScreenOS 5.4 is free of charge for new and existing Juniper Networks customers under a valid service contract and can be downloaded at https://www.juniper.net/customers/support/.
