TelstraClear Empowers Researchers and Educational Institutions Throughout New Zealand with Juniper Networks

New Zealand's Advanced Network Project Based on Juniper Routing Platforms

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 10th, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that the Board of Research and Education Advanced Network, New Zealand (REANNZ) has selected TelstraClear to build the Advanced Research Network. TelstraClear is using Juniper Networks M-series routing products to provide the platform for the Advanced Research Network. The new infrastructure provides the research and education community with a network capable of quickly moving terabytes of data, providing access to computational and data resources throughout the world, and enabling researchers and educational users to share scientific research and resources more efficiently and effectively. The Juniper routing platforms will provide the reliability, scalability and advanced IPv6 and multicasting capabilities required to support this cutting-edge research and education network.

"The rate of progress of many areas of research is determined in large part by the availability of high capacity communications infrastructure," said Charles Jarvie, Implementation Manager for REANNZ Limited. "The Advanced Research Network is designed to provide extremely high speed connectivity between research and education users to allow the sharing of resources and exchange of data nationally and internationally, on par with researchers in the rest of the world. We will be greatly improving large data sets and analytical tools through this network, which is optimized for the specialized needs of the academic and research communities, including access to computationally intensive modeling."

The new Advanced Network, deployed and managed by TelstraClear, will deliver 10Gbps connections to most large universities in New Zealand and will carry next-generation IPv6 traffic, including multicast data streams.

"The Juniper Networks equipment is already a central part of our own network, delivering unmatched capability and reliability, which are crucial factors in a Research and Education deployment," said TelstraClear's Chief Operating Officer Luigi Sorbello. "As a high profile, flagship network, REANNZ demands the same performance and reliability TelstraClear requires of our own network, so it was an easy decision for us to work with our trusted partner Juniper Networks to deliver the routing component of the REANNZ project."

The Juniper Networks M-series multiservice routing platforms use a high-performance architecture and JUNOS, a proven carrier class operating system, ensuring industry-leading performance to support latency sensitive applications such as voice, video, and mission critical applications. The M-series platforms are highly proven in the most advanced production and research and education networks throughout the world, delivering the reliability, scalability and performance required for demanding network applications.

"REANNZ's Advanced Network project will provide researchers and educational institutions throughout New Zealand with the connectivity and access to resources they require to stay at the forefront of the scientific community," said Shaun Page, vice president of Australia and New Zealand for Juniper Networks. "Our M-series platforms enable REANNZ to build an agile and open network that will reliably serve New Zealand's research community for many years to come."

According to research analyst IDC, Juniper Networks led the New Zealand core routing market in Q4 2005 with 79 percent revenue share.
