RTL Upgrades TV Broadcast Network with Juniper Networks Routing Platforms

M-series Industry-Leading Multicast Capabilities Enable German Broadcaster to Improve Efficiency and Quality of Video Distribution Network

SUNNYVALE,Calif., February 14th, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that RTL Television, Germany's leading TV station, is upgrading its broadcast distribution network with Juniper Networks M-series multiservice edge routers. By providing real-time multicast video streaming capabilities, the Juniper Networks routing platforms will enable RTL to improve the bandwidth efficiency of distributing video content between its central office and regional studios. The upgrade, managed by local partner NK Networks & Services, will also enable RTL to ensure quality of service (QoS) for live broadcast content, and provides the scalability to support future growth.

"Multicast performance was the key to this upgrade. Our existing routers could not provide the speed or quality we required for broadcast-quality, on-demand video streaming," said Ingo Ruber, RTL's manager of networks and infrastructure. "The Juniper solution improved the performance, scale and quality of our network, so we can focus on providing interesting, timely programming to our TV audience, without any concerns about our network's capabilities."

RTL is now able to transmit up to four separate video streams simultaneously, each at 10 Mbps bi-directional throughput, from its headquarters in Cologne, to regional studios in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg and several other locations. All locations also use the Juniper Networks M7i Multiservice Edge router to perform daily back-up transmissions.

The M7i multiservice edge routing platform is an ideal enterprise routing solution for head offices, campuses and corporate backbones that need reliable, secure and high-performance IP WAN connectivity, Internet access and services. The M-series routing platforms deliver robust multicast support, including point-to-multipoint IP/MPLS broadcasting, to support efficient and reliable delivery of high-value video content. Using a high-performance architecture and JUNOS, the M-series ensures high reliability with uncompromising forwarding performance for latency-sensitive applications such as voice, video, and mission-critical data.

"As Germany's leading TV broadcaster, RTL relies on its network to support a variety of mission-critical traffic, ranging from live news broadcasts to standard interoffice connectivity and data transfer," said Eddie Minshull, executive vice president, Worldwide Field Operations, Juniper Networks. "Juniper is pleased to be providing RTL with a carrier-grade enterprise routing platform to support RTL's leadership position in the German television market."
