PCCW Deploys Juniper Networks Solution to Enable Video Over Broadband Services

Worldwide Leader in IPTV Deploys E-series Routers and SDX Service Deployment System to Reliably Deliver Video on Demand Services

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 7th, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that PCCW, Hong Kong's largest telecommunications service provider and the world's largest provider of broadband video, has deployed Juniper Networks E-series Broadband Services Routers and SDX Service Deployment System to enable its IP-based video on demand (VoD) services. The Juniper Networks solution enables PCCW to dynamically allocate bandwidth for and assure the quality of service (QoS) of its now Broadband TV VoD service and its now.com.hk web-based streaming video service.

PCCW has deployed the E-series Broadband Services Routers at the edge of its IP network to aggregate broadband traffic, apply QoS policies and deliver unicast VoD sessions. The SDX-300 Service Deployment System works in conjunction with the E-series and the end-user's set-top box, enabling PCCW to deploy and account for individual VoD sessions. When a VoD session is initiated, the SDX signals the E-series router to adjust bandwidth allocations and apply the appropriate QoS policies, ensuring the quality of each customer's experience.

"With over 450,000 subscribers for our now Broadband TV service, PCCW operates one of the world's largest IPTV networks," said Allen Wong, Director of Product Development and Management, Consumer Business, PCCW. "The Juniper Networks solution is a key component of our VOD platform, enabling us to differentiate our video services from other paid TV operators. It also ensures customer satisfaction through a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme with per-customer-based QoS control."

now Broadband TV is an innovative IP-based service that provides DVD-quality broadcast television and audio programming, video on demand, and a la carte programming that allows consumers to individually select the channels they wish to receive.

With the number one position in the broadband aggregation router market, according to Gartner , the Juniper Networks E-series Broadband Services Router is a central component of the broadband edge network. Juniper has maintained the E-series' lead in the broadband market by delivering advanced features and capabilities that ensure QoS, support high availability and improve automation for advanced services such as IPTV, VoD and bundled triple play services.

The SDX Service Deployment System is a robust, customizable application that makes it possible for service providers to rapidly create and deploy new IP services to hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Designed to work in conjunction with the Juniper Networks range of routing platforms, the SDX enables service providers to customize a portfolio of new, individualized revenue-generating services.

"PCCW is a leader in the growing IPTV market because they recognize the need to deliver advanced, individualized service offerings that go beyond simple broadcast television," said Adam Judd, vice president of Asia Pacific for Juniper Networks. "With the unique capabilities of our E-series routers and SDX platform, we are able to provide PCCW with the per-subscriber granularity they require to reliably support their video on demand service. We're pleased to play such a key role in PCCW's IPTV success and look forward to working with them to support their future goals."
