Leading Japanese IT Provider Secures and Assures Managed Security Service with Juniper Networks

Hitachi Systems & Services Leverages IDP Platforms for Comprehensive Protection Against Multiple Network Threats

SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 13, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Hitachi Systems & Services, Ltd. (Hitachi SAS) is using the Juniper Networks Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) solutions to deliver managed intrusion prevention network security services to its business customers. The new Hitachi IDP service will help protect its customers' mission-critical network assets without requiring the customers to deploy an IDP solution on their premises and has been created using the Juniper Networks IDP 50, 200, 600 and 1100 appliances.

"Japan, being one of the most mature telecommunications markets in the world, is subject to a wide spectrum of network threats," said Masaki Maki, managing director, Network Security Business, Hitachi SAS. "A comprehensive set of security measures is needed to thwart the many types of possible incursions. However, not every business is fully capable of deploying a rich portfolio of preventative measures on its premises, so we are offering a managed alternative based on the Juniper Networks IDP. Of all the options in the market, we concluded only Juniper Networks solutions were dependable enough for us to stake our reputation on."

Founded in 1978, Hitachi SAS is a member of the Hitachi Group and is one of the largest providers of systems integration services in Japan. The company is a member of the Juniper Networks J-Partner Reseller Program and has been reselling the full range of Juniper Networks firewall solutions since 1998. It also offers consultation, deployment, network security policy tuning, onsite maintenance and round-the-clock monitoring services. The company will now additionally offer remote security services for system and access management, and remote tuning service for signature updates and policy changes via a new managed service with the Juniper Networks IDP solutions.

The Juniper Networks IDP uses multiple detection methods and full application layer inspection to accurately detect the penetration and proliferation of worms, Trojans, spyware and other current and emerging threats. The Juniper Networks IDP is unique in that it combines an open signature format with extensive customization capabilities to protect against attacks that exploit vulnerabilities that can be used as avenues for attack, such as those found in Microsoft operating systems and other applications. To keep users abreast of the latest set of attack prevention information, the Juniper Networks IDP product line is the first and only intrusion and prevention system (IPS) in the market to receive daily signature updates.

"Juniper Networks has again been selected by one of Japan's leading technology companies," said Masanori Osuga, vice president of Japan for Juniper Networks. "In the past 12 months, our network security solutions have been deployed by major service providers and enterprises throughout Asia Pacific, and now by Hitachi SAS, one of the leading solution integrators in Japan. Hitachi SAS's new managed service, with our IDP solution, will accelerate the recognition of the importance of network security in the market."
