Siemens and Juniper Networks Upgrade T-Com's Broadband Access Network
SUNNYVALE, Calif. & MUNICH, Germany- Aug. 25, 2005 - Siemens Communications and Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that the two companies have completed the upgrade of Juniper Networks E-Series Broadband Service Routers as part of the DSL-based broadband access network operated by T-Com, the fixed-network unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, to prepare the network for future requirements.
Siemens implemented an intelligent logistics and modification process that ensured that the upgrade was completed on-time and without disrupting network operations, by working in close cooperation with T-Com and Juniper Networks, Siemens AG's global partner for IP networks and routers.
The Juniper Networks E-series routing platforms provide industry leading scalability, reliability and service flexibility, enabling T-Com to implement the E-series as the basis for providing new, innovative services. The capacity and scalability of the E-series enables the concurrent access to very large numbers of customers, which results in a highly efficient and cost-effective utilization of T-Com's network.
Juniper Networks E-series Broadband Routers are used as a Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) and Access Concentrator in T-Com's IP network, and also support the AAA services (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) essential for controlled network access. The E-series also enables the real-time transmission streaming video content over the Internet by and routing them at "wire speed". The E-series wire speed performance is made possible by the use of advanced ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) hardware, which operate at significantly faster forwarding rates than comparable software-based solutions.
