Juniper Networks Named SSL VPN Market Share Leader by Industry Analyst Firm

Juniper Networks Revenue Larger Than Three Closest Competitors' Combined According to Report

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 26, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced its continued market share leadership in the Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) market, according to a report by IDC, the premier global market intelligence and advisory firm in the information technology and telecommunications industries. The report, entitled: "Worldwide SSL VPN Appliance 2005-2009 Forecast and 2004 Vendor Shares: Delivery Secure Application Access," dated March 2005, states Juniper Networks achieved a 195 percent growth with its SSL VPN revenue in 2004 compared with 2003.

"Juniper Networks was clearly the market leader in 2004 and its revenue figure is larger than its three closest competitors combined," said Charles Kolodgy, research director, Security Products at IDC. "Juniper's SSL VPN appliance offerings can meet the needs of any potential user. The products are some of the most mature in the market."

David Flynn, vice president of Products, Security Products Group at Juniper Networks, added, "Juniper continues to remain focused on delivering advanced secure and assured networking solutions to customers worldwide. This latest report confirms the lead we have over competing solutions, underscoring the value customers place on the security, reliability and total cost of ownership advantages delivered by our solutions."

The bulletin reiterates that Enterprises spend billions on network security, and at the same time, IT managers and staff are being challenged to expose their IT infrastructures to more users - those who are company employees and those who are not. The increasing need for quick but secure remote access is being accomplished using technology that leverages the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) built into standard Internet browsers to create a virtual private network (VPN). SSL VPNs are now seen as a viable option to IPSec-based VPNs. SSL VPNs are typically easier to deploy, are available via the Web, and do not require complex client installations. They make a perfect option for user remote access.
