Choice One Selects Lucent Technologies and Juniper Networks to Enhance IP Infrastructure for Broadband Services
MURRAY HILL, N.J. and SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 22, 2005 - Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) and Juniper Networks (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced a contract with Choice One Communications, an integrated communications provider, to upgrade the carrier's Internet Protocol (IP) network with Juniper Networks routing platforms.
Under the one-year agreement, Choice One, which offers facilities-based voice and data telecommunications services, including Internet solutions, to clients in 29 Northeast and Midwest markets, is deploying Juniper Networks M-series routing platforms to improve network performance to support the increasing demand for broadband services. Choice One selected Lucent Technologies and Juniper Networks over competing solutions.
Among its services, Choice One offers DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) service directly to its enterprise customers and through wholesale arrangements to other carriers. The Juniper Networks M-series routing platforms will consolidate broadband traffic from multiple users, apply Quality of Service (QoS) for value added services and provide predictable, secure and highly available transport across the network.
"In selecting the Juniper platform to meet our ever-increasing IP network requirements, Choice One is getting a high performance, scalable and cost-effective router solution that provides the reliability that our clients are demanding," said Bob Bailey, SVP-Technology, Choice One Communications.
"Lucent continues to work closely with Choice One to help our customer meet its business objectives. Lucent's strategy allows it to deliver the most effective solutions to Choice One, whether home-grown, based on a partnership, such as with Juniper Networks or in combination," said Gerry Cafaro, vice president for Lucent Technologies.
"The strategic relationship between Juniper Networks and Lucent enables Choice One to deliver revenue-generating services to their customers with a secure and assured experience," Christine Heckart, vice president of marketing at Juniper Networks. "With the M-series, Service Providers can process their network traffic with high levels of reliability and intelligence for assured service delivery without performance compromise."
