T-Com Reaches Over 35 Petabytes of IP Traffic per Month with Support from Juniper Networks T640 Routing Platforms

Based on Projected Monthly Traffic Run Rate Over a One-Year Period, T-Com's IP Network on Track to Handle More Data than all the Printed Material in the World

SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 31, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that T-Com, the fixed-line division of Deutsche Telekom, is routing more than 35 petabytes of data per month across its German IP network. This milestone was achieved with the support of Juniper Networks T640 routing platforms that were deployed during 2003. (See January 19, 2004 announcement, "Siemens Builds Largest Central Internet Node for T-Com with Juniper Networks T640 Routing Platform" at https://www.juniper.net/uk/en/company/press-center/press-releases/2004/pr_2004_01_19-16_23.page)

A petabyte is equivalent to approximately one thousand million million bytes. To put this achievement in perspective, all of the printed material in the world amounts to 200 petabytes. The landmark was achieved in less than a year since the T640 platforms were deployed in T-Com's production network. In the last two years T-Com has experienced massive traffic growth driven by strong demand for its DSL broadband services. This growth has contributed significantly to the overall traffic mix. The achievement is all the more remarkable as the T640-based Point of Presence (PoP) has proven to be extremely stable and has been running without outages since the deployment was completed.

"The decision to deploy Juniper Networks technology in T-Com's multivendor infrastructure has proven to be the right one. We have been running the T640 platforms without outages for nearly a year and the Juniper Networks and Siemens team has delivered on its commitment to provide us with a high-performing, stable core router. As a result we have been able to scale our infrastructure to fit our capacity requirements which, as it turns out, is a staggering 35 petabytes per month within our IP network," said Wolfgang Schmitz, senior executive vice president, Technology Engineering, T-Com.
