Juniper Networks Teams with Leading Access Management Companies to Expand Secure Extranet Access

Company Working with IBM, Netegrity, Oblix, RSA Security and Others to Ensure Seamless, Secure Access of Information at Reduced Costs

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 28, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that it is working with leading access management companies to ensure interoperability between their products and its new Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)-enabled SSL VPN solutions. (See related press release issued today titled "Juniper Networks First to Deliver SSL VPN Solution with SAML Support to Transform Secure Extranet Access.")

Juniper Networks, the first to provide SAML support on an SSL VPN appliance, is using the standard to integrate with access management products from Entrust, Inc., IBM, Netegrity, Inc., Oblix, OpenNetwork Technologies, Inc., and RSA Security Inc. The companies are promoting standards-based architectures that enable seamless sharing of security information across organizations and heterogeneous access management architectures, which can result in lower overall cost of ownership of secure extranet deployments.

The increased adoption of access management solutions makes SAML integration essential for SSL VPN vendors because SAML defines an XML-based framework for exchanging security information in a standards-based manner. The Juniper Networks SSL VPN appliances communicate with leading access management products via the SAML standard to assert and enforce the authentication and authorization information stored, eliminating the need to distribute and maintain software agents or to replicate resources in a DMZ. The combined solution set results in a lower overall total cost of ownership by leverage existing authentication and authorization policy stores while enabling Web Single Sign On (SSO) and secure access to corporate resources.

"SAML is a common first step that many companies take as they consider how to implement Single Sign On," said Laura Voglino, director of security and SOA marketing, Tivoli software, IBM. "IBM supports open standards such as SAML so customers can more easily extend the benefits of our access management capabilities to remote users and accelerate new business opportunities. We are pleased to see Juniper add SAML functionality to its SSL VPN products, which will allow our customers to enhance usage and access through IBM Tivoli Access Manager."

"Netegrity has long been leading the way in developing security standards such as SAML and leveraging these standards in Netegrity's identity and access management products to enable the sharing of identity information both within the enterprise and outside of the enterprise," said Stephanie Feraday, vice president of marketing at Netegrity. "Customers that have both Juniper Networks' SSL VPN and Netegrity products can now leverage their existing Netegrity security infrastructure and policies and utilize SAML to share identity information and extend security policies to the Juniper appliance."

"Oblix has tested and verified the seamless SAML-based exchange of authentication, authorization and identity information between Oblix COREid and Juniper Networks' SSL VPN appliances," said Ken Sims, vice president, marketing and business development, Oblix. "This tight interoperability leverages our customers' investment in their identity management infrastructure, while ensuring both ease-of-use and the highest levels of security."

"RSA Security has been an industry pioneer in the drive for standards, such as SAML, which are essential for enabling businesses to realize cost savings, enhanced productivity, stronger business relationships and improved security," said John Worrall vice president of worldwide marketing at RSA Security. "Our joint customers will be able to securely extend access to critical resources using the RSA ClearTrust solution or RSA Federated Identity Manager, and cost-effectively deploy access to a broader user base using ubiquitous SSL VPNs."

"The integration of the SAML standard in our SSL VPN furthers our commitment to interoperating with best-of-breed technologies, and sets the benchmark for functionality in the SSL VPN industry," said Jason Matlof, senior director of application security gateway products, Juniper Networks. "Juniper Networks is proud to offer customers standards-based security that will cost-effectively meet today's connectivity needs while providing the architecture for future cross-enterprise communications."
