Juniper Networks Delivers Its Industry-Leading Technology in New Platforms to Connect and Secure the Customer Edge

J-series Services Router and NetScreen-5GT ADSL Security Appliance Deliver Advanced Security, Performance and Reliability for Business-Critical Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 14, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced the J-series Services Router family of products and the NetScreen-5GT ADSL security appliance designed to meet the evolving demands of widely distributed, business-critical applications.

The J-series Services Router and the NetScreen-5GT ADSL security appliance were designed to meet the requirements of converged, distributed networks in both managed services and corporate infrastructures. These products represent a significant opportunity for Juniper Networks distribution partners to offer new and differentiated solutions to their customers.

"The acquisition of NetScreen was the initial step of an overall plan to bring new levels of security, performance and reliability to the customer edge," said Jim Dolce, executive vice president, Worldwide Field Operations, Juniper Networks. "The introduction of these new products is intended to further bolster that plan, while demonstrating our continued commitment to advancing the Infranet Initiative."

Juniper Networks J-series Services Router

The J-series Services Router integrates the JUNOS modular operating system with hardware that leverages the innovation and economics of industry-standard processor technology. With JUNOS now available in a platform designed for the customer edge, J-series customers benefit from the same proven software stability and performance used in the largest public networks in the world.

"Juniper Networks' technology leadership began six years ago when service providers first deployed the JUNOS modular operating system in their networks. Today's announcement is yet another leadership milestone for the company, as we now deliver the benefits of JUNOS in a platform optimized for the customer edge," added Dolce.

"As we evaluate the advanced feature set of the J-series, we expect it to support our requirement of using reliable technologies to deliver high-performance managed services to help our customers realize their business goals," said Stan Barber, vice president, Engineering Operations for Verio. "With constant technology innovation, we are providing seamless integration with our customers' networks to meet stringent standards for the increasingly complex performance and reliability demands in today's business environment."

As a modular, multi-threaded software platform, JUNOS is a fundamentally different architecture approach than legacy, single-threaded systems. By running multiple functions in parallel on dedicated processing resources, JUNOS delivers high reliability with the flexibility to enable advanced routing, Quality of Service (QoS), security and management policies with high levels of performance.

"The innovative architecture of the J-series combines the exceptional power and performance of Intel processor technology with the production-proven, modular design of Juniper Networks JUNOS software," said Sean Maloney, executive vice president, group manager, Intel Communications Group. "This distinctive combination offers new technology options at the endpoints of the network."

The J-series includes the following platforms:

  • J2300 Services Router - Fixed platform with one primary and one expansion slot that supports 8 Mbps uplink
  • J4300 Services Router - Modular platform with six open slots that supports 16 Mbps uplink
  • J6300 Services Router - Modular platform with six open slots and the option for a redundant power supply that supports 90 Mbps uplink

Juniper Networks NetScreen-5GT ADSL

In one convenient platform, the NetScreen-5GT ADSL meets the diverse needs of remote office locations connected to ADSL services. The product integrates multiple security functions - stateful and Deep Inspection firewall, IPSec VPN, denial of service protection and antivirus - with an ADSL interface and WAN routing. By eliminating the need for an external ADSL modem, the NetScreen-5GT ADSL enhances security for remote offices, provides flexibility to meet specific security needs and reduces both upfront hardware and ongoing operational costs.

Exceeding most small remote office performance requirements, the NetScreen-5GT ADSL supports ANNEX A and ANNEX B ADSL. The product is manageable through the Juniper Networks NetScreen-Security Manager, the company's central security product management system, and includes rapid deployment capabilities to reduce the need for pre-staging or for technical expertise at the point of installation.
