HydroQual Secures Network with Juniper Networks Security Solutions

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 17, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that HydroQual, an environmental engineering and science firm that combines the latest scientific research with sound engineering principles to solve environmental problems, is securing its network with the Juniper Networks integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) security solutions and intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) system.

HydroQual found that its previous software-based firewall was sometimes unstable and maintenance was expensive. HydroQual turned to igxglobal, a premier northeast security integrator, to help narrow its options for a new security solution and provide ongoing maintenance services.

"Because data maintenance is such an important part of our business, we can't afford to have it compromised and we have to maintain strict access rights in many instances," said James Hallden, IT director at HydroQual. "To this end, it was imperative for us to select a network security vendor and an integrator that work seamlessly together to offer us a robust, cost-effective and reliable solutions that we know we can count on. Together, Juniper Networks and igxglobal offer us unparalleled security with route- and policy-based controls, Denial of Service and application protection and malicious content-based scanning."

With the help of igx, HydroQual selected multiple Juniper Networks NetScreen-204 appliances, which provide up to 400 Mbps firewall and up to 200 Mbps of 3DES IPSec VPN throughput, and are deployed at the company's New Jersey headquarters to protect critical network resources and data traversing the corporate network.

Deployed at igxglobal headquarters and providing application-level IDP protection to all inbound HydroQual corporate traffic is a Juniper Networks NetScreen-IDP 10. The Juniper Networks NetScreen-IDP 10 provides up to 20 Mbps throughput and operates inline to detect and drop malicious traffic in real-time before it reaches its victim. igxglobal provides ongoing management, monitoring, maintenance and support for the Juniper Networks NetScreen appliances at both HydroQual and igxglobal locations.

"We believe that a real security solution begins and ends with an approach that allows for flexibility, scales to meet current and future security requirements and enables business functionality in parallel with security," said Babak Pasdar, chief technology and chief information security officer for igxglobal.

"Juniper Networks has continued to demonstrate it has the focus, the quality of product sets and ability to adapt to market requirements. The igxglobal and Juniper Networks combination offers customers a comprehensive network security solution."
