Comtec Transforms Telcom Kenya's Network infrastructure with Juniper Networks Solutions

M-series Routing Platforms Needed to Support Increased Data Traffic

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 6, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that its new partner in Africa, Comtec, has supplied and deployed Juniper Networks Infranet-ready M20 routing platforms at JamboNet in Nairobi, Kenya. JamboNet is the Telcom Kenya Internet Gateway that serves all local Internet Service Providers (ISP) and large institutions.

The M20 routing platforms have helped Telcom Kenya overcome the reliability and scalability issues it was facing. Its previous infrastructure was designed mainly for dial-up connectivity and corporate leased line Internet services. Growth of Internet traffic in Kenya has increased at a higher pace than anticipated and the old infrastructure simply wasn't able to offer the level of service required by the Kenyan ISP market. With JamboNet as the key gateway serving the local ISPs, the need to introduce the scalable and trusted Juniper Networks solutions was evident.

"The Juniper Networks platforms have so far outperformed our expectations in terms of service delivery and reliability. Our operational costs have gone down significantly and our customers are enjoying a superior service which has resulted in a dramatic reduction in service calls," said Julius Rukaria, IP Network Manager at Telcom Kenya.

"In addition to a technically superior solution we're able to offer customized support services to Telcom Kenya through our partnership with Juniper Networks. This is of vital importance to carriers like Telcom Kenya if they wish to succeed in their aim of providing the best possible services to their customers," said Charles Kiithya, general manager data communications at Comtec.

"The African telecoms market is developing rapidly as is demonstrated with the significant traffic growth Telkom Kenya is experiencing. The choice of the Juniper Networks M20 routing platform will allow Telkom Kenya to continue growing while being able to offer reliable and secure network services to its customers," commented Eddie Minshull, VP EMEA Operations at Juniper Networks.

Comtec is Juniper Networks authorized reseller partner for the Central-African market. In this capacity Comtec receives information, training, and support necessary to increase sales and enhance business development opportunities in Central Africa in exchange for the opportunity to increase revenue and help deliver high-performance IP networking solutions.
