PIPEX Communications and Juniper Networks Set Standard for Next Generation Broadband Traffic Management

PIPEX Chooses Juniper Networks E-Series Subscriber Management Platform and M40e for New BT 622 IP Stream Broadband Service

SUNNYVALE, Calif., February 18, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that PIPEX Communications, a leading UK ISP, has selected the Juniper Networks Infranet-ready ERX-1440 subscriber management platform to manage tens of thousands of new ADSL customers on its newly provisioned BT 622 IP Stream-based services.

Mark Cook, director of Broadband Networks, PIPEX said, "In our opinion the Juniper Networks ERX platform provides an extremely efficient and cost effective customer subscriber platform for the deployment of our next generation of DSL services. As one of the top five UK broadband ISPs, PIPEX has a reputation for delivering top class consumer and corporate Internet services. Both are very competitive markets and will not tolerate service down time or traffic latency. To ensure that we consistently provide the best possible service we have chosen the Juniper Networks ERX-1440 to deliver the benefits of the PIPEX Xtreme broadband service to our new customers into 2004."

A full evaluation process was carried out by PIPEX, during which the Juniper Networks ERX-1440 impressed the PIPEX technical team by delivering exactly the performance, density and scalability required for comprehensive IP service delivery over PIPEX's rapidly growing broadband network, meeting or exceeding all commercial and operational requirements.

Mark Cook also commented, "The evaluation process looked at more than just the hardware. We also found Juniper Networks very responsive to PIPEX's needs and easy to deal with, something that was particularly important for us. All in all, the Juniper Networks solution was the right combination for the next phase of PIPEX's broadband network deployment."

The ERX-1440 platforms, combined with the Juniper Networks M40e routing platform, are now operational at PIPEX's new co-location centre in East London. Each ERX platform will manage two BT 622 IP Stream services, each capable of supporting up to 16,000 sessions over a 622Mbps BT Central link, bringing its customers the benefits of one of the most advanced broadband delivery platforms in the UK.

"The Juniper Networks solutions enable PIPEX to maintain its position as the one of the UK's key broadband service providers. This endorsement further underpins Juniper Networks' reputation as the company that is transforming global networking," commented Eddie Minshull, vice president, EMEA Operations, Juniper Networks.

The Juniper Networks E-series edge platforms are modular, carrier-class networking devices that deliver performance, reliability and service differentiation to both business and consumer Internet users. The systems offer high port density, low power consumption, and fully redundant Internet access routing and edge aggregation. The E-series edge routers offer the complete edge solution for IP-optimised carriers.

The M40e routing platform provides a dense, highly redundant platform enabling dedicated access aggregation at the edge, as well as the core of IP-networks. It leverages the proven JUNOS Internet software which provides unmatched IP dependability and security.

Imtech Telecom, the local Juniper Networks partner, was responsible for the supply and installation of the routing platforms and also assumes responsibility for support and maintenance.
