Siemens Netherlands Secures Managed Office IT Service with NetScreen Solutions
Sunnyvale, CA - January 26, 2004 - NetScreen Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSCN) today announced that Siemens Netherlands has selected NetScreen’s integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) security solutions to secure its managed “Excellent Office” IT service offerings, which include a recently established fixed-price, integrated package of managed IT and communication services for small-to-medium enterprise (SMEs) and a long-established service for large organizations.
To address its requirements for a high speed, multi-purpose security solution, Siemens selected award-winning NetScreen-5200 systems that provide up to four Gbps firewall and up to two Gbps VPN throughput.
A pair of NetScreen-5200 systems is deployed in active-active mode at the perimeter of Siemens’ Excellent Office computer centre network, providing high-speed firewall protection and VPN termination for incoming data traffic from customers’ networks. The VPNs connect Siemens’ service customers to the Siemens computer centre via ADSL lines operated by its network service provider partner, KPN.
Another pair of NetScreen-5200 systems provides firewall protection and a VPN link between the Siemens computer centre network and the public Internet, ensuring that customers are protected when accessing the public Internet as part of their Excellent Office package. At customer sites, the NetScreen-enabled VPNs are established at individual users’ desktop via NetScreen-Remote, NetScreen’s IPSec VPN client software security solution.
Each Excellent Office customer has its own dedicated VPN connection to the Siemens computer centre, accessible by numerous branch offices and remote teleworkers. To maintain this complex environment securely and cost-effectively, Siemens and KPN leverage the Virtual Systems capability of the NetScreen devices.
NetScreen’s Virtual Systems feature enables up to 500 separate security domains to be created and operated from a single platform. As a result, the various customers, their branches and teleworkers, can be segmented within the Siemens network and unique security policies applied to each, protecting them accordingly from attempted breaches launched internally or externally.
Siemens Netherlands offers stringent service level agreements (SLAs) as part of the standard package for customers. NetScreen’s best-of-breed integrated security solutions with advanced features, such as Virtual Systems, can help ensure Siemens meets its SLA requirements without incurring unnecessary costs.
