Zhejiang Electric Power Chooses Juniper Networks for New Backbone Network

Chinese Utility Becomes Juniper Networks First Utility Customer in PRC

SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 13, 2003 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that China's Zhejiang Provincial Electric Power has chosen its solutions to build a high capacity backbone network that will span China's industrial and emerging high-tech province of Zhejiang. This deployment highlights Juniper Networks expansion from its traditional focus on China's carrier market to now include utility network providers.

Zhejiang Electric's new backbone network is based on Juniper Networks M-series routing platform that provide dedicated access, public and private peering, and hosting sites for core IP networks. This IP core network enables Zhejiang Electric Power to connect all its branches, electric power generation facilities and other units, and to integrate them into one single advanced IP network.

"When we began the project, Zhejiang Electric had one goal in mind - to establish a stable platform to build new services with a performance level and the capacity for new services that would satisfy the demands of city users," said Shi Yongyi, supervisor of networks for Zhejiang Electric. "Juniper Networks and its products met our needs at every juncture. As a result, the entire network now consists 100 percent of Juniper Networks systems."

"Widespread respect within China for the performance and stability of Juniper Networks solutions contributes to its success with new contracts," said Eric Yu, vice president, Greater China, Juniper Networks. "We are especially delighted to work with Zhejiang Electric on this network rollout because it highlights our growing contribution to the utility sector, a new and exciting market in the People's Republic of China."
