NTT-ME Selects Juniper Networks to Satisfy Increased Traffic Volume and Demand for New Services in High-Performance Network

M-Series Maximizes Return on Investment with Reliability and Scale for Deployment of Revenue-Generating IP Services

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 11, 2003 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that NTT-ME Corporation, the strategic subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporate (NTT East), has upgraded its network with M-series platforms. NTT-ME selected the M-series for its leading performance, reliability, and ability to scale the network to address increased traffic growth and efficiently layer new services into the network without costly infrastructure overhauls.

The M-series has been deployed at both the core and the edge of NTT-ME's network. The core routing platforms support high performance peering and transit and the edge platforms deliver private line services to business customers. The high performance packet processing capabilities of the M-series enable NTT-ME to deliver a wide range of network services under the "WAK WAK" brand to their home and small office/home office (SOHO) users and under the "XePhion" umbrella to their corporate users. These highly dependable and secure revenue-generating services include Voice over IP (VoIP), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), content hosting, and a plethora of other advanced applications.

"To meet our business requirements, we needed a scalable and service-rich network infrastructure capable of delivering a range of IP services without compromising network performance," said Masatoshi Ito, manager, XePhion business headquarters and WAKWAK service department of NTT-ME. "The ability to provide advanced features and superior performance, as well as Juniper Networks proven track record, was an important consideration in the decision to deploy the M-series for our broadband network expansion."

"We are pleased to be selected by NTT-ME, who in its brief three-year history, has managed to grow its customer base to more than 230,000 broadband users and become one of the top ten Internet Service Providers in Japan in 2002 in terms of traffic volume," said Masanori Osuga, vice president, Japan, Juniper Networks. "As NTT-ME continues to provide its customers with a superior broadband experience, the company is also optimizing its return on the network investment by creating a service-rich infrastructure. With this approach, NTT-ME is a leading example of the Model for Integrated Network Transformation (MINT)."
