Juniper Networks New G10 Cable Modem Termination System Receives Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 Qualification

Juniper Networks G10 CMTS Gives European Cable Operators Two-way Speeds for Delivering Simultaneous Voice, Video, and Data Services

Sunnyvale, CA - March 20, 2002 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of profitable infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced that its G10 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) has received European Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (Euro-DOCSIS) 1.0 qualification. The Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 qualified G10 CMTS assures European cable operators preparing to deploy next-generation IP services of a scalable, interoperable migration path.

Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 qualification ensures cable operators have a standardized approach for their cable networks. Interoperability between the numerous cable modems and related CMTS equipment provides the foundation for cable operators in different countries to integrate multiple vendors and achieve economies of scale.

Notably, Juniper Networks passed Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 testing on its first submission. The G10 is also the first CMTS unit to pass Euro-DOCSIS using Juniper Networks custom silicon - the Broadband Cable Processor ASIC. This custom ASIC digitizes the entire 5-65 MHz return spectrum to collapse the functionality of 20 legacy CMTS chips into a single ASIC. The ASIC's all-digital return enables cable operators to deliver more bandwidth for advanced IP services and provides superior RF performance. The benefit to cable operators is the ability to simultaneously support a higher number of cable modems and to lower capital expenses.

"Achieving Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 qualification is an important milestone for Juniper Networks," said Michael Harris, president of broadband research firm Kinetic Strategies. "The scalability and RF performance of Juniper [Networks] G10 CMTS will benefit European cable operators deploying next-generation IP services."

The Euro-DOCSIS Certification Board, comprised of representatives of European cable operators, grants certification to Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 compliant modems and qualified status to headend equipment based on lab tests completed by tComLabs, the Euro-DOCSIS certification testing company.
