Juniper Networks Builds Out Cable & Wireless Internet Infrastructure

High-speed Internet Equipment Paves Way for New IP Services Including Secure IP Network Offerings

Sunnyvale, CA - February 26, 2002 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of profitable infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced Cable & Wireless (NYSE: CWP) is building out its global Internet Protocol (IP) network using Juniper Networks M-series Internet routers. This latest initiative is part of Cable and Wireless' rollout of the most accessible, reliable and advanced IP network in the industry.

This latest enhancement of its global IP network allows Cable & Wireless to rapidly create numerous quality IP services using multiprotocol label switching (MPLS). The MPLS capabilities, provided by Juniper Networks M160 Internet routers, make way for the deployment of new, concurrent IP services that leverage high-speed access lines for end-customers at OC3 (155 megabits per second) speeds and above.

"Cable & Wireless will provision new IP capabilities over both dedicated high-speed access lines and lower speed consumer broadband services using Juniper Networks MPLS-based Internet infrastructure," said Phil Green, senior vice president, Global Operations at Cable & Wireless. "The delivery of multiple, concurrent IP services will have a positive impact on our total cost of ownership and ultimately simplify our network operations. Juniper Networks M-series Internet infrastructure will intelligently speed IP traffic through our network."

The deployment of Juniper Networks products is integral to Cable & Wireless' ability to provide new IP service offerings globally at speeds up to OC-192c and flexible enough to provision new IP service offerings today and tomorrow.

Juniper Networks routers provide Cable & Wireless with rapid go-to-market IP service plans and network performance commitments that ultimately offer investment protection throughout its network. In addition to the Operation Support System capabilities within the JUNOS Internet software, Juniper Networks Internet infrastructure aids Cable & Wireless in longer-term capital planning and network capacity planning. Cable and Wireless' strategy to integrate its United States, United Kingdom, and Japanese businesses is enhanced through Juniper Networks ability to enable diverse IP connectivity across a single global IP infrastructure.

The ability to provision multiple voice and data services over both new and existing network equipment ensures the network will not need to be overhauled with every service upgrade cycle. The driving force behind this investment protection involves the redeployment of previously designated "core routers" to the dedicated access edge of the Cable & Wireless network where IP processing speed and intelligence help deploy multiple new revenue-bearing services quickly.
