i-STT Selects Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router For Secure Virtual Router Capabilities

One of Asia Pacific's leading service providers deploys second phase of ERXs

Singapore - January 29, 2002 - Unisphere Networks, Inc., a leading provider of IP infrastructure products to enable broadband data, voice and video services, today announced that i-STT Pte Ltd. is deploying its second phase of Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Routers for the expansion of its network infrastructure across Asia. i-STT, a leading provider of managed hosting services and integrated Internet infrastructure solutions, selected the ERX for its scalability, reliability, virtual router capabilities and wire-speed performance.

The ERX Edge Router features an integrated design to increase network efficiency while decreasing capital and operational expenditures. Its ASIC-based architecture combines necessary edge functionality, such as IP routing, subscriber management, and IP services, with wire-speed performance. i-STT will rely upon the ERX's software strength to map Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) traffic into multiple distinct virtual routers. The ERX supports up to 1,000 separate virtual routers per chassis, providing i-STT's corporate customers, particularly those in the financial sector, with secure access to their hosted data. The secure virtual router capabilities of the ERX negate the need for each customer to have its own dedicated routers and enable i-STT to support a larger number of subscribers at a more cost-effective rate.

i-STT initially deployed Unisphere Networks' ERX in September, 2000 to fulfill Tier-One routing functions in its pan-Asia WEBCentres™. Unisphere Networks' ERX enabled i-STT to peer with other Tier-One Internet Service Providers (ISPs) using BGP-4 and IS-IS Internet protocols. The additional ERXs provide i-STT with a scalable solution for its customer base and continued network expansion.

"i-STT is committed to providing our customers with a scalable and a more cost-effective solution for both Tier-One IP routing and secure broadband services and applications. Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router enables us to simplify the interconnections and avoid us having to manage tens of routers. This simplification and consolidation translate to a reduction in management and operational cost," said Henry Cheung, director, Technology and Support Systems, i-STT. "We are pleased that Unisphere Networks has been a part of our network infrastructure development and the ERX is consistent with i-STT's strategy of offering best-of-breed technology. We will continue to grow our business with our valued partners."

"i-STT was one of our first customers in the Asia South Pacific Region and we are very pleased to be a part of its continued development of its network infrastructure," said Brad Gray, vice president, Asia South Pacific, Unisphere Networks.
