Juniper Networks Cable Experts Presenting at SCTE's Conference on Emerging Technologies

Topics Address Technologies used in First-ever DOCSIS™ 1.0 Qualified CMTS using Custom Silicon

SUNNYVALE, CA - January 8, 2002 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure systems, announced today it is leading a Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) session on "Utilizing Next-Generation Broadband Networks" at the Emerging Technologies conference this week. The session will address technologies used in silicon in a Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS™) qualified cable modem termination system (CMTS). The company's G10 CMTS system recently received DOCSIS™ 1.0 qualification from CableLabs®.

The session occurs on Thursday, January 10 at 1:45 p.m. in the Fairmont Hotel Imperial Ballroom in San Jose, CA. Three panel members are representing Juniper Networks: moderator Victor Hou, distinguished engineer; and speakers Burcak Beser and C. C. Lee, both distinguished engineers at Juniper Networks.

Primary session topics include the benchmarks necessary for developing next-generation, two-way high-speed cable networks, including mapping of IP quality of service (QoS); approaches to traffic engineering for data and other types of services; IP multicast; IP address management; and field experiences with voice over IP (VoIP) over hybrid fiber/coax (HFC).

The CMTS panel experts will provide an in-depth presentation on active load balancing, QoS, traffic engineering, and system-level capacity. These CMTS experts held critical roles in helping to achieve DOCSIS 1.0 Qualification, making Juniper Networks G10 the first CMTS system to receive CableLabs Qualification running custom silicon, a notable departure from legacy silicon commonly used in existing CMTS systems. Similarly, Juniper Networks is helping service providers deliver scalable IP services through purpose-built IP software and custom ASICs designed to enhance access, mobile and core router performance.
