By cultivating a culture of integrity in our supply chain our partners become extensions of our efforts to meet big, bold challenges that make a meaningful difference.
Juniper’s supply chain goal is to create productive, long-term relationships with our suppliers that align with our vision, values, and business objectives. To do that we take a 360° approach to choosing and evaluating suppliers using an engagement framework that guides development of long-term relationships with them.
The framework is focused on developing:
- Integrity in what we do together for the customer and in our commitments to each other
- Collaboration that makes the most of our opportunities and how we are differentiated
- A Remarkable Customer Experience by taking the time to make sure that what we deliver meets customer needs and expectations
- Bold Aspirations that enable us to be disruptive, but with the right differentiation
- Mutual Benefit by seeking common ground where we can meet common goals
- Innovation and Operational Excellence that creates an exceptional solution life cycle
This framework ensures that we are looking for partners and working with them holistically, and it is complemented by The Juniper Wheel of Excellence which sets clear expectations around metrics we look at and use to monitor and manage our suppliers.
At Juniper Networks, we work to cultivate a culture of integrity and ethics to inspire confidence throughout our ecosystem. We develop trust with customers, partners, suppliers, and our fellow employees by being honest, fair, respectful, and reliable in all our business dealings.
“The Juniper Way” defines the values and behaviors that guide all our interactions and sets the standards by which we hold ourselves accountable. It enables us to respect and amplify the great legacy of our company and achieve our mission to connect everything and empower everyone.
Juniper Networks’ suppliers are valued business partners. Together, we are building more innovative, effective and efficient products. At the same time, we recognize we have a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to encourage the adoption of more responsible business practices across our supply chain.
To this end, Juniper adopted and promotes the adoption by our suppliers the practices of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) Code of Conduct, which reflect our values and expectations. The EICC provides guidelines and resources to drive performance and compliance with critical corporate social responsibility policies to ensure that working conditions in the electronic industry supply chain are safe, that workers are treated with respect and dignity, and that manufacturing processes are environmentally responsible.
Juniper fully supports the vision, mission, and principles of the EICC and commits to the industry’s collaborative approach in applying leading standards and practices in the supply chain.
Combating Human Trafficking and Slavery
At Juniper, we honor human rights, including the eradication of human trafficking, modern slavery, and forced and child labor. We believe in upholding high ethical standards, and expect employees and our global supply chain to follow ethical business practices and comply with laws.
Juniper has policies and procedures in place to deter prohibited activities, and to investigate and take appropriate corrective action if any prohibited activity is identified, up to and including termination. We follow an internationally recognized compliance program for eradicating human trafficking and modern slavery, consisting of verification, audit, certification, accountability, and training.
At Juniper, we strongly support industry-wide efforts to promote responsible sourcing. We take seriously the allegations that the trade of certain minerals sourced from the Democratic Republic of Congo and adjoining countries may be funding violent conflicts in that region. We are aware of the possibility that columbite-tantalite, also known as coltan (the metal ore from which tantalum is extracted); cassiterite (the metal ore from which tin is extracted); gold; wolframite (the metal ore from which tungsten is extracted); or their derivatives from this region, collectively referred to as conflict minerals, may be part of the supply chain in the electronics industry.
In recognition of the need for more transparency in the minerals supply chain, we are committed to supporting the success of the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative (CFSI) and the Conflict-Free Smelter Program (CFSP). As a member of the CFSI, our due diligence process uses CFSI tools and programs, including the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) and the CFSP.
We engage with our suppliers for training, data collection, and verification to promote the use of tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold from responsible sources in our products. Responsible sources are smelters that comply with certified audit programs, such as the CFSP, and that may source from conflict-affected and high-risk regions, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and adjoining countries, but do so in a manner that does not contribute to armed conflict in those regions.
We are committed to responsible sourcing throughout our supply chain and we have taken steps to reduce the likelihood that Juniper products contain conflict minerals.
For conflict minerals where the majority of known smelters or refiners are compliant with the CFSP, we direct material suppliers to source from compliant smelters.
For other conflict minerals, Juniper directs material suppliers to source from compliant smelters or smelters that are actively demonstrating progress toward becoming CFSP-compliant.
To help expand the universe of CFSP-compliant smelters, we conduct direct outreach to smelters in our supply chain, using guidance from CFSI, to encourage their participation in the CFSP.
Further, we hold our suppliers—and their suppliers—responsible for taking steps to reduce the likelihood that their products contain conflict minerals. We ask our suppliers to exercise due diligence on the source and chain of custody of these minerals, and to make their measures available for review by Juniper. We also encourage our suppliers to support industry efforts to enhance traceability and responsible practices throughout their supply chains.
