Juniper products meet some of the strictest environmental standards in the technology industry. We continue to innovate and look at new technology that can help reduce our products’ environmental impact and make them more energy-efficient.
Juniper’s greatest impact on the environment is through our products, so we’re taking on the complex challenge of designing and delivering products that demonstrate environmental responsibility in all phases of their life cycles. At Juniper, we’re committed to protecting the environment by offering hardware, software, and service solutions that enable our customers to meet sustainability goals and support a circular economy.
Our eco-design initiative focuses on improving the environmental performance of products through design. Priorities for the initiative include:
As part of our environmental sustainability goals, we also see a critical need to help our customers expand the useful life of their Juniper products, even in the modern environment of rapid change. We design and build our products for interoperability, modularity, repair, and refurbishment, extending our customers’ hardware investments.
We monitor compliance with local and international laws in all of our locations worldwide. Working with governments, industry partners and consortia, and customers, we balance regulations with innovation through our development and implementation of standards and metrics.
Juniper’s Circular Economy Model for Environmental Sustainability
We take a different approach to developing products at Juniper. By removing complexity and focusing on the critical processes at every stage of our products’ life cycle, we can innovate and rethink our ways of interacting with Juniper customers and partners. Doing so helps us generate value for our stakeholders and for the environment.
We believe that sustainably designed products are not only better from an environmental perspective, they’re more reliable, longer-lived, and economically sensible. Juniper’s eco-design program considers opportunities to decrease our products' impact on the environment and improve efficiencies at every stage of the life cycle. The program prioritizes energy efficiency, materials innovation, and recyclability.
Juniper carefully selects suppliers and partners who share our values and goals. We encourage and recognize our partners who demonstrate a commitment to the environment. And we commend those who contribute to a circular economy by returning byproducts to the ecosystem and using waste as a resource.
Juniper products are built for longevity, flexibility and interoperability. They’re also highly scalable to meet demands in an environment of rapid change and growth. We focus on lowering the total cost of ownership by improving product energy efficiency, reducing operational expenses, and offering cloud-based solutions that allow our customers to access applications and services without buying and managing on-premises infrastructure. And we offer leasing models that contribute to a shared economy.
Warranties and support extend the useful life of a product and ensure that it runs efficiently. Juniper’s modular product design makes it easy to dismantle and repair, while strategically located regional Global Return Centers (for product repair) limit travel cost and time, logistic miles, and emissions.
When demand for products shifts, Juniper makes sure those products can still be put to good use. The Juniper Certified Pre-Owned Program enables our customers to extend the life of their existing Juniper architecture by offering end-of-life hardware products with manufacturer support and warranty.
Juniper designs products to be easily dismantled, and our parts are labeled to encourage recycling. For components and products that can no longer be used, Juniper partners with an industry leader in responsible electronics recycling. Our partner promotes reuse, encourages reduction of waste, and recycles non-reusable materials, keeping data security top-of-mind throughout. With this approach, the materials in our products can efficiently reenter the commodity loop for our business, or into another value chain.
EU Directive 2011/65/EU Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS II)
Juniper Networks follows EU RoHS restrictions throughout all product series. We have eliminated the use of all banned substances currently outlined in the EU RoHS directive and reduced the usage of restricted substances to levels at or below legal limits. And, we continue to improve product designs to meet the changing environmental requirements though the implementation of the Design for Environment (DfE) practices.
Juniper’s overall product certification of compliance for the EU RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), WEEE, China RoHS and REACH is available by contacting email@example.com.

EU Directive 2012/19/EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Juniper complies with the European Union (EU) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive by financing and managing the collection and environmentally sound disposal of products that have reached the end of their useful life. All Juniper products introduced after August 13, 2005 are eligible for recycling and are marked with the WEEE “do not dispose” symbol.
Juniper’s equipment recycling program is available in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
To recycle eligible Juniper products, please log in to your Juniper Customer Care account and open a case. Please follow these instructions to fill out a case form. If you do not have a Juniper user account, call Juniper Customer Care to initiate your recycling request.
After you submit the form, our Customer Care team will email you a pickup request form to fill out. Juniper’s ISO-certified supplier, AER Worldwide, will contact you to arrange pickup.
When the products have been recycled, recovered, or disposed of in a responsible manner, you will receive a Certificate of Destruction. The entire process takes approximately four to six weeks.
Our packaging is designed to be reused or recycled and should be handled in accordance with local, state, or country-specific recycling policies and procedures.

Regulation EC No. 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals
Juniper Networks follows EU REACH requirements in regards to reporting and authorizing chemicals imported, produced, or used in the preparations of products within the EU Member States. Juniper continues to monitor and assess both the REACH initiative and Juniper Products to ensure proper registration and reporting is initiated when laws or products change.
Juniper Suppliers have been notified of their role in these new requirements and their data will be used as required through the already established process within Juniper for product environmental compliance.

The 80 PLUS initiative promotes energy efficiency in power supply units (PSUs). 80 PLUS certifications are applied to products with greater than 80% energy efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load, and a power factor of 0.9 or greater at 100% load. The Juniper goal is to use PSUs that waste 20% or less energy as heat loss at the specified load levels, reducing electricity use and costs compared to less efficient PSUs.
Juniper Networks complies with China RoHS on all products that include specific China RoHS label designations and reporting metrics for restricted substances. China RoHS symbols are included on products that are free of all restricted substances present above the permitted levels.
While the China RoHS symbol is included on products that contain restricted substances above the permitted levels, the "50" in the center of the symbol is the "Environmentally Friendly Use Period" for the product. All products with this symbol are accompanied by the table of hazardous materials indicating their location in products.
Juniper Networks marks product shipping containers with the "Green Dot" label to signify our participation as a Repak member through financial contributions to the cost, recovery, and recycling of product packaging per the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive - 94/62/EC.
Juniper Networks utilizes the international recycling symbol on all products and packaging to insure that end users recognize that our products are designed for recyclability. It is our goal to reduce waste in all regional sales locations.
